Why Your Body Prefers Natural Herbal Medicine Plants grow wild and abundant on this planet, and have always been the first chosen medicines of all cultures. Plant medicine and specifically medicinal herbs have adapted over time as humans cultivate and wildcraft them to meet our medicinal needs. Modern pharmaceutical medicine is relatively new and has only been around for a few hundred years. However, what most people do not realize is that most of the pills you purchase in a store were created in labs to chemically copy the natural compounds found in wild plants. Often, this is done to isolate key compounds and intensify their effects. Essentially, these pills and pharmaceutical compounds are man made versions of something nature already provides. However as a whole plant herbal company we believe in honoring the true botanical and work to capture all it’s herbal goodness using traditional herbal extractions. So exactly what is a medicinal herb?
Herbal medicine has recorded roots dating back over 6,000 years in China, India and the Middle East. Even today, a large portion of people on this planet still use herbal medicine as their first-choice medicine. How Do Herbs Actually Work? All foods and plants contain chemical compounds. Phytochemicals are the biologically active compounds found in plants. When we ingest plants, the body breaks the plant material down, using saliva and digestive juices, and then processes these phytochemicals. Everybody is different so it’s important to be cautious when exploring medicinal herbs in conjunction with your healthcare provider. Watch for side effects, be alert for allergic reactions, make sure you purchase from an herbal manufacturer you trust, and keep a journal to track your progress with herbs. How Do We Use Herbs As Medicine? We can consume medicinal herbs in many ways such as eating them, using herbal teas, tablets, capsules or liquid extracts (like tinctures and tonics), smoking dried herbs - or externally applying herbs with lotions, oils, and salves. Why Don’t More Medical Doctors in the USA Recommend Herbal Medicine? It is worth mentioning in this regard, that this is actually changing. Many modern doctors are beginning to recommend natural remedies first, before proceeding to pharmaceuticals. While most modern doctors have no training in herbal medicine, simply because it is not typically part of required medical education; many are choosing to study herbal medicine on their own. Minds are beginning to change about living more naturally. Another reason you won’t hear much herbal medicine in the media is that modern medicine is a TWO TRILLION DOLLAR a year business in the USA, and a lot of money is spent to advertise the un-natural versions of these herbs. There is a lot of money in pharmaceutical drug development, and sadly this is much less healthy for our bodies and our planet. The manufacturing of these lab made drugs often creates toxic by-products that can be harmful to the environment. How is the natural plant different from a chemical copy?
Herbs have many additional phytochemicals in them, beside the medicinal chemicals - that act as buffering agents, making their actions smoother. Pharmaceuticals are created to isolate one phytochemical from the others, and reproduce it synthetically. Using the whole plant provides these additional components to help our bodies absorb and use herbs in their natural state. Does herbal medicine cost more than pharmaceuticals? Herbs are much less expensive than pharmaceuticals, not to mention a lot less expensive than medical treatment and hospitals. Their low cost makes them worth trying before we move to formal medical treatment Why doesn’t everyone try herbs first? Often, people simply do not understand much about herbs and how many are easily available to them! Many are shy in trying something without having a guide or mentor. This is why we work so hard to help educate people. Our mission is to help find the right herbs, for the right reasons, for the right people. We aim to demystify healing herbs and make them simple to understand. More than ever before modern people are waking up to living in a more natural state. From organic food, to locally sourced meats and produce, to herb and mushroom supplements - Americans are just choosing better for their bodies. It is important to remember that herbal supplements are not subject to regulation by the FDA and, therefore, have not been tested in an FDA-approved clinical trial to prove their effectiveness in the treatment or management of medical conditions. We recommend you talk to your doctor, naturopath, or clinical herbalist about your symptoms and discuss herbal supplements before use and make sure you choose medicinal herbs or herbal supplements from a reputable manufacturer.

Earlier this year, the OLCC adopted new rules that significantly limits consumer access to whole plant hemp medicine at OLCC licensed stores. The short version is, these new rules mean that all hemp products in the OLCC system manufactured on or after March 1st, 2019 cannot contain more than 10mg of THC in a package. As per the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, Federal law dictates that CBD products derived from hemp are legal as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC. All of our hemp products can easily meet the Federal requirement. However, due to the OLCC's decision to restrict THC content by volume per package rather than by percentage, it's impossible to continue to manufacture some of our Oregon-grown whole hemp flower products at their current potency while still keeping the THC content under 10mg. We believe in whole plant and whole flower healing whenever possible, and we're not willing to sacrifice our values as a company to adhere to the state's whims. We believe in the power of all the herbal goodness from all plants. As a result, we're reformulating some of our certified organic products to contain lower quantities of our whole hemp flower extract, keeping the total THC volume below 10mg, and in turn reducing the total volume of CBD to no more than approximately 250mg. Unfortunately, one of our most popular products will have to be retired from the OLCC market until OLCC changes their rules: our Ra Hemp Classic Green Dragon Tincture. We're sorry to see it go, but you can still order remaining stock until it's gone! We MADE bunch in February right before the rule change so we still have some in stock. The team at Sun God feels that these new OLCC rules are absolutely outrageous. Our Founder & CEO, Brie Malarkey, personally lobbied the OLCC and state legislators when these new rules were still being discussed and pleaded with them to take reasonable action. Instead, they chose to create a state-level restriction that's more strict than Federal law--a huge step backward for Oregonians seeking safe access to whole plant and whole flower solutions. However, we will not give up! Join us in continuing to lobby the OLCC to make reasonable and fair guidelines for the sake of all Oregonians, and for family-owned whole plant businesses! We encourage you to write to the OLCC voicing your displeasure and disagreement with these new guidelines, and ask that they reconsider their approach to limiting THC in hemp products in Oregon.
